On Aleksis Kivi-themed tours we visit the three places in Siuntio where Aleksis Kivi has left his mark on history: Fanjunkars, Sjundby Manor and Purnus Farm.
National writer Aleksis Kivi lived in Siuntio at Charlotta Lönnqvist's Fanjunkars croft from 1864-1871. Mademoiselle Charlotta gave him a home and the peace he needed to work. Kivi became familiar with Siuntio when he lived at Purnus with his brother in 1857-1858.
Aleksis Kivi spent the most productive period of his adult years at Fanjunkars and wrote most of his major works there, including three versions of his Seven Brothers, his best-known work. On this tour, we visit the renovated Fanjunkars croft and the mediaeval Sjundby Manor where Charlotta Lönnqvist worked as a cook. After a guided tour of the manor, we enjoy the atmosphere of Sjundby's Old Granary and a tasty lunch to match the tour theme.
Afternoon coffee is waiting for us when we reach Purnus Farm, accompanied by "Aleksis Kivi" pulla – sweet Finnish bread made from top-quality wheat. After coffee, we take a guided walk "following Aleksis Kivi's footsteps" to the Flaggberget heights, where Siuntio's inhabitants organised Whitsun and Midsummer bonfires and dances in which Aleksis Kivi participated. Along the way, plenty of interesting stories about this important figure in Finnish literary history.
